Trouble in Mudbug, by Jana DeLeon.
This is Book 1 of DeLeon's "Ghost-in-law" series! It's a mystery/romance described by its readers as a fun, easy, and entertaining read.
"I really enjoyed this book. It is laugh-out-loud funny and cute. The mystery is decent with enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing, but also not too difficult to figure out. The Maryse/Luc romance is just hot enough without being too steamy. I enjoyed the first 2/3 more than the last 1/3...mostly because the end wasn't as humorous. It also closed everything up without as much excitement.
"The style is similar to Stephanie Plum, but not as goofy--just fun. Also similar to Kathleen Bacus's Calamity Jayne series though not as immature (Tressa was young and in the process of growing up). All are very humorous. This one does have more descriptive sex, though (only one episode and it isn't too steamy).
"The next installment of the series involves Maryse's friend, Sabine. I'm looking forward to more antics from Helena. She may not have been liked in life, but she's a lot more fun in death!" -- Laura B, Amazon reviewer
Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law’s death. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana.
Unfortunately, death doesn’t slow down Helena one bit.
DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into – especially as it seems someone wants her dead. Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty.

Later Bloomers: 35 Folks Over Age 35 Who Found Their Passion And Purpose, by Debra Eve.
This is an inspiring set of true stories, especially for those of us approaching, or well into, middle-age!
"I have always enjoyed biographies, and this book is a scrapbook of mini biographies. There was something to be learned and applied from each person's life that she discussed.
"I used to think that the world had passed me by, but not anymore. I am just getting started! I would recommend this book to men or women, especially those who are stuck in a rut, maybe they lost their job and are having a tough time marketing themselves for a new job, and for especially for empty nesters. Happy reading! " -- Lola Gail

Sword Bearer (Return of the Dragons), by Teddy Jacobs.
Let's switch gears now to an epic fantasy: Sword Bearer is Book 1 of the Jacob's Return of Dragon series.
"This is a great story. I found it very entertaining. It would appeal to a more juvenile crowd, but I still liked it. Some typos and storyline inconsistencies (hence the 4 stars not 5) but still a great read. I prefer much more detailed and longer books usually, but I really liked this one. Good, quick read. " -- J. M. Bangerter
You swing a staff until you're ready to swing a sword. Then you go on all kinds of adventures - fighting monsters, casting spells and saving damsels in distress. At least that's how it's supposed to work, but I didn't believe a word of it.
Tired of his controlling father treating him like a child, sixteen-year-old Anders Tomason yearns for grown-up adventure. Until the day when he opens a magic portal by accident, and a Kriek girl bursts into his locked room with a chemical warlock hot on her trail. Now Anders will discover just how much his parents had been protecting him from, and at what cost.
Because the adventure is upon him, and it's an adventure full of danger, full of blood, fire, demons and evil. To face it, he'll need the sword given him by his blademaster, need the ancient words his grandfather bequeathed to him on his deathbed. Need the song that runs in his own blood, in his veins.
But will blade, word and blood be enough?
