"The Love and the Darkness" is an adventure game in which you travel through a creepy hotel, finding hidden objects and solving puzzles as you go.It's a highly-graphical game, but the cool thing is that it's designed for e-ink Kindles - so it'll work on your Kindle, Kindle Touch, Paperwhite, Keyboard, DX, or Kindle 2. The game comes from JetDogs Studios.
In the game, you help young Jonathan Harker search for his fiance, who vanished under mysterious circumstances. In the process, you unravel the mystery of an abandoned hotel, and overcome the foes who dare to separate two loving hearts.
The scenes behind the story are beautifully rendered - look at the example one below! There are 30 finished locations in the game; you can see a few more by clicking on the thumbnail images. Gorgeous!
The quality of the pictures say a lot about the care that went into this game. Beyond the pictures, the gameplay is really well thought out. To advance through the story, you have to solve a variety of brainteasers, including jigsaw and Sudoku puzzles. Some of the brainteasers have multiple levels of difficulty - making this interesting for all ages of Kindle-users.
My family tested this game on the basic Kindle, the Kindle keyboard, the Kindle Touch, and the Kindle Touch. It's fun on all platforms but is easier to navigate on the touch-screen Kindles.
We would definitely recommend this game for anyone with an e-ink Kindle who wants a fun diversion when they're taking a break from reading!
I couldn't stop playing this game. With the choice of accessing hints when I needed them kept me from getting stuck and frustrated. I loved playing the puzzles and was glad to be able to play extra puzzles once the game was solved. I would love to see more games of this type to play on my Kindle Touch.
