Treachery in Bordeaux (The Winemaker Detective Series), by Jean-Pierre Alaux. (Still 0.99?)

"I am not a big fan of wine. I can't tell the difference between a fine vintage and a cheap box of plonk - to my eternal dismay. But that did not detract from this beautiful book. And it is a beautiful book. Very atmospheric. You will feel Benjamin Cooker's angst over the book on wine he is writing. You will enjoy watching the growing bond between Cooker and his new assistant, Virgile Lanssien. There are wonderful descriptions of the art, architecture, history and landscape of the Bordeaux region. The mystery in this book is not a murder but the attempted destruction of vintner Denis Massapain and his Monicales Haut-Brion Estate by way of Brettanoymces (a yeast) introduced into his casks. There is secondary mystery about three paintings that will ultimately tie in to the mystery about the wine. There is a marvelous conversation between Cooker and the discredited Ferdinand Ténotier that will lead Cooker and Virgile to the villain they seek. The shoes are John Lobb, the cigars are Cuban, and the wine is `classic'. As is this book." -- Amazon reviewer

"I love good mysteries. I love good wine. So imagine my joy at finding a great mystery about wine, and winemaking, and the whole culture of that fascinating world. And then I find it's the first of a series. I can see myself enjoying many a bottle of wine while enjoying the adventures of Benjamin Cooker in this terrific new series." — William Martin, New York Times bestselling author of Back Bay and The Lincoln Letter

The series is being adapted to television in France. This first book aired in February 2012 as Mission à Pessac.

Benjamin Cooker is a renowned winemaker and critic turned gentleman detective who sets out to find who is trying to take down the prestigious grand cru Moniales Haut-Brion. Is it negligence or sabotage? Who would want to target this esteemed vintner? Cooker and his assistant Virgile Lanssien search the city and the vineyards for answers, giving readers and inside view of this famous wine region. Treachery in Bordeaux is the first of the 20-book Winemaker Detective series that delves into the underworld of a global luxury industry.

"Treachery in Bordeaux is a fine vintage forged by the pens of two very different varietals. It is best consumed slightly chilled, and never alone. You will be intrigued by its mystery, and surprised by its finish, and it will stay with you for a very long time." — Peter May, Prize-winning, international bestselling author

“An excellent mystery series in which you eat, drink and discuss wine as much as you do murders.” — Bernard Frank, Le Nouvel Observateur

“Benjamin Cooker uses his composure, erudition and intuition to solve heady crimes that take place in the exclusive—and realistic—world of grand cru wines.” — Jean-Claude Raspiengeas, La Croix

“This is an excellent translation. You never have the feeling you are reading a translated text. The author obviously knows Bordeaux extremely well, and he knows quite a bit about oenology. The book should be a hit with lovers of Bordeaux wine." — Tom Fiorini, The Vine Route

Sisters in White (Snow Sisters, Book Three; Love in Bloom Series), by Melissa Foster. (Still 3.99?)

"Sisters in White is a steamy romance infused with solid reflections on complex, evolving interpersonal relationships, and is a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy." -- Midwest Book Review

"Melissa Foster works effortless magic creating just the right mix of family drama. It is rare that love stories focus on the insanity that is family without overshadowing the love story and Melissa Foster worked both into this story wonderfully." -- Readers' Favorite

THE LEGEND OF ARKATAK, by Khedidja Ouheb. (Still 2.99?)

"When I finished The Legend of Arkatak, I assumed it was a retelling of a traditional myth, so imagine my surprise when I found it was actually imagined completely by the authors. But it has that feel, of an ageless story that has been polished and retold many times. Like a great myth, the Legend of Arkatak is mostly concerned with character as it traces the rise of Arkatak. If you're into Greek or Roman mythology, I'd definitely recommend this book with its blend of adventure, drama and humanity." -- Amazon reviewer

The Legend of Arkatak is a myth of epic fantasy. This is the story of a paraplegic prince before our time, a story of imperfection, flaws and betrayal. Time, life and distances are bent and distorted in unimaginable ways in this story. This story portrays the very spirit of men and gods. It portrays the loss of innocence and life. A young paraplegic prince called Arkatak goes through the hardest moments in his life. His father dies and Arkatak is thrown on the streets because of his handicap. His mother is ravished and she is dying on the streets. What comes next...
