Blood Land: A James Pruett Mystery (Volume One), by R.S. Guthrie. (Still free?)

"Remarkable...Deserving of more than five stars. A hypnotic storyteller and a gifted writer with a flair for intoxicating, gripping prose." Russell Blake, bestselling author of JET and Silver Justice.

"A starkly beautiful tale of greed and redemption." Frederick Lee Brooke, bestselling author of Max Vinyl and Zombie Candy.

"R.S. Guthrie has produced a stunning work!" Alan McDermott, bestselling author of Gray Justice and Gray Redemption.

Crime's an ugly constant in the big city. L.A. Chicago. New York. But when a savage murder brutalizes a small town and neighbor turns on neighbor, a tough-as-nails cop is essential to restoring order. Blood Land is a gritty, emotional saga set in the Wyoming badlands with both greed and vengeance at its core.

When billions of dollars in natural gas rights hang in the balance and the town's top law officer's wife is slain by her own blood, a reluctant hero is forced to battle his own demons and ultimately choose between justice, revenge, and duty.

In the tradition of Dennis Lehane, Tony Hillerman and James Lee Burke, Guthrie's sparse, haunting storytelling compliments his talent for creating richly-drawn, unflinching law officers with human frailties and a sense of justice.

Spooked, by Tracy Sharp. (Still free?)

"I really liked this book. It was creepy and scary at the same time. Even though there wasn't a lot of world building, I still liked it. It was a short fast paced book. In the beginning it kind of dragged on with all the information given at once, but we needed all the info to understand what was going on. Ok, so I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, so I'm just going to say that, we really get to see Lore use her gift in the second half of the book. That's when I finally started to really get into the book. There was plenty of action and there was always a sense of doom. It was all in the name of finding out who was kidnapping all the girls in her town. Oh, and you will never figure out who it is. I thought it was everyone, but the person it actually was. It will shock you to your core." -- Amazon reviewer

Sixteen year old Lorelei has a special talent. She can steal your deepest, darkest secrets. However, using her power leaves her open to some very nasty creatures from the underworld.

Can Lorelei stop more girls from being taken? Or will using her gift attract the hell-things that are after her?

Scoundrel for Hire (Velvet Lies, Book 1), by Adrienne deWolfe. (Still 0.99?)

"Adrienne de Wolfe's writing is clever...guaranteed to please." -- -- Pamela Morsi

"Scoundrel for Hire is a humorous western romance that will enchant sub-genre fans into seeking other works by the talented Adrienne deWolfe. The story line is entertaining due to the wickedly witty exchanges between characters...but the book belongs to that rapscallion, Rafe, robber of readers' hearts. This is another winner for deWolfe." - Harriet Klausner -- Painted Rock Readers & Writers Colony

"Wickedly funny! This book sizzles with a scoundrel you won't mind losing your heart to. Adrienne deWolfe is a jewel of a find." -- Christina Dodd

To Hellas and Back, by Lana Penrose. (Still 1.99?)

"This story is as much mine as it is Lana's. I find myself struggling to push back the tears, struggling to keep the floodgates firmly shut as my emotions hoist me up and carry me back through time, setting me down almost twenty years ago when I first arrived in Australia, a stranger in a strange land. Suddenly her anguish is my anguish as the feelings of isolation and desolation I have carefully tucked away are rudely awakened from their slumber and pushed to the surface. I can sympathise with her struggle to tightrope between the sense of alienation attached to life in a foreign country and the need to assimilate and be accepted on equal terms. I have experienced firsthand the debilitating nausea of being pushed to your limits as the battle between two countries with precious little in common rages on inside you." -- Epsilon Magazine

When Lana and Dion head to Athens, they have no idea what lies in wait. Dion has been offered the job of the century, while Lana chases a sabbatical involving sun, sea and sand. But while the gods couldn't have been kinder, this is one travel adventure that does not go according to plan.

Lana finds it difficult to articulate beyond pointing and snorting. She acquires towering hairstyles and discovers solace only through tweezering her leg hair. Meanwhile, Dion is having the time of his life, embracing his Greek ancestry, and slipping further from Lana's grasp just when she needs him the most.

Welcome to a cross-cultural love story with all the trimmings: a big, fat Greek wedding, a son-worshipping mother-in-law, a fast-crumbling psyche and an unexpected ending.

The Book of the Forsaken (book 1 "The Game"), by Yannis Karatsioris. (Still 2.99?)

"I first came across The Book of the Forsaken on a critiquing website and it made a strong impression on me then. That you've been able to convince a reader who knows and cares so little about the fantasy genre that the last (and probably only) fantasy novel I read was Lord of the Rings is a testament to your accomplishment as a writer. Slick and sophisticated, witty and highly imaginative. I look forward to reading the next book from this writer." -- Amazon reviewer

A sarcastic storyteller traps three characters in his web in order to get hold of a special book. Daniel, Cassidy and Igor are three unique individuals, considered outcasts for different reasons. They are about to meet and stick together, as coincidences and forced situations lead them to a journey all around Europe. As everyone is after the Book of the Forsaken, the coming Game is about to take place on the dark side of the moon. But there is a cost to that knowledge. Let alone to the wish to partake.

"The writing is of a very high standard, the text is engaging and the story is highly original. By introducing chapters/sections with quotations from ‘The Emerald Tablet’, the guiding principles of the alternate universe the author creates are ever present, hinting at the greater significance of events and making us want to read on to find out more."
