Rushed, by Brian Harmon. (Still free?)

"Okay, now THIS was interesting! I like the way the story's written - not that it's just written clearly, well, and with good grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but that the plot is so unique! I'm reminded of Odd Thomas from Dean Koontz - the uniqueness about the characters is so intresting! Eric seems to be a well-adjusted, healthy, average fellow with no mental or psychological complications - then, the dream. The dream that won't go away. The dream that keeps... compelling.... him... From the development of the initial character, to seeing his family surrounding him, to his sense of humor, I loved everything about this book. And the imaginativeness and warped plot just kept me up way too long into the night reading. I am very, very happy with this book, I love the grisly details of the environment, of what poor Eric deals with, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ending! It's just too fitting. Seriously, if you like something that'll keep you turning pages but make you smile or shiver with disturbance, RUSHED is just the ticket." -- Amazon reviewer

Eric can't remember the recurring dream that keeps waking him in the middle of the night with an overwhelming urge to leave, yet he spends each day feeling as if he desperately needs to be somewhere. With no idea how to cure himself of this odd new compulsion, he decides to let it take its course and go for a drive, hoping that once he proves to himself that there is nowhere to go, he can return to his normal life. Instead, he finds himself hurled headlong into a nightmare adventure across a fractured Wisconsin as the dream reveals itself one heart-pounding detail at a time.

Horror, science fiction, dark fantasy. From the author of The Temple of the Blind. 84,000 words.

"Great start to small-town series! Bluestone is a sweet little lake town that the economy is killing. Efforts by the townspeople to revitalize their home provides the backdrop to the start of this promising series. In this first book, several of the townspeople are introduced. I enjoyed them, loved some of them, and I'm looking forward to watching as their journeys continue through the coming books. This holds true for the main couple in Bluestone Homecoming as well. Leo and Trinity are a great couple, and I loved watching them fall for each other. I thought the interactions with Leo's son, Max, and the efforts to see to his needs and make sure he was okay with this new relationship were nicely done and true to a boy that age. My only real complaint was that the story of this couple ended before I wanted it to. So, I'm crossing my fingers that I get to see Leo and Trinity progress in the background throughout the series. If you like small towns peopled with characters you feel like you could be friends with, then this is a book you'll want to pick up." -- Amazon reviewer

War correspondent Leo Ericson returns to his hometown of Bluestone Lake, Minnesota, when his parents notify him his young son is having trouble fitting in at school. Leo doesn’t know how to be a single parent since the death of his wife, and he certainly has no desire to return to Bluestone. But he needs a place for his son, a place where he’ll be with family, while Leo does his job. He’ll stay long enough to get Max settled, then go back to work.
School counselor Trinity Madison watches Leo struggle with his son, trying to overcome the mental barricade she’s erected against the man who sent his son away when he’s perfectly capable of caring for the child. The situation brings about her own unsettled feelings about giving her child up for adoption when she was young. But as she observes Leo’s difficulties, his sacrifices, she softens toward the man.
While he’s in town, he ends up working with some old friends and Trinity on a committee to revitalize Bluestone. The former resort town is struggling and looking for ways to bring tourists back. Leo finds himself charmed, then smitten with the feisty counselor, but will he still love her when he learns her secret?

PURE VISION: The Magdalene Revelation, by Perri Birney. (Still 0.99?)

"A thrill ride in the vein of The Da Vinci Code but with a much larger vision for all of us. The alchemy is part historic fiction, part spiritual adventure, and a variety of interfaith metaphysics that metamorphosize into a golden vision of world peace . . . a page turner." -- Paul Hertel, Whole Living

"Presents a fascinating story full of intrigue and history. Birney's fiction seamlessly blends science and religion into a tale worthy of Indiana Jones . . . The book left this reader confident that idealism is not dead and that, sometimes, it can be the road map by which we might save ourselves." -- Cynthia Warren, Daily Freeman

"Birney infuses this epic novel with feminine echoes of The Da Vinci Code and The Red Tent, with her eyes on the prize of world peace. Reporter Maggie Seline courts controversy by championing an international Jerusalem...when she disappears, women around the globe march for peace...powerful men vie for two ancient artifacts." -- Chronogram

An ancient artifact is stolen . . . A long-lost document is found . . . A mysterious and dangerous journey unfolds . . .

New York Times reporter Maggie Seline writes an explosive book that offers a controversial solution to the Middle East crisis. When she uncovers a radical energy scheme that threatens the oil industry, Maggie suddenly vanishes. Her disappearance ignites a worldwide women's march toward Jerusalem that rattles the status quo and parallels a frantic race to possess ancient talismans.

An upcoming peace conference hides the true motivation of Giovanni Mabus, outgoing president of the European Commission, who intends to exploit a powerful mythological connection between two legendary treasures. In league with the clandestine pseudo-Masonic group, Propaganda Due, he sets in motion events aimed at furthering political and military chaos in the Middle East in order to accomplish his aims. Meanwhile, Maggie and Dead Sea Scrolls scholar Michael Sonada race to thwart the sinister plot -- a race that takes them into the forbidden regions of Nepal to make an earth-shattering discovery.

PURE VISION brings together ancient myths and contemporary challenges in a provocative and inspiring thrill ride. At every turn, Perri Birney's intriguing scenario encourages a closer look at the spiritual forces that infuse the world's political battles.
