Scotland is occupied; Scottish resistance is crushed.

Eighteen-year-old James Douglas can only watch as the Scottish freedom fighter, William Wallace, is hanged, drawn, and quartered. But even under the heel of a brutal English conqueror, the Scots may still have one hope for freedom: the rightful King of the Scots, Robert the Bruce. James swears fealty to the man he believes can lead the fight against English tyranny.

The Bruce is soon a fugitive, king only in name. The woman James loves is captured and imprisoned. Yet James believes their cause is not lost. Running with Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes, by Mary T. Wagner. (Still free?)

A set of inspiring slice-of-life essays from a woman who's seen a lot of life! Free today.

"Wagner knows how to make you examine your life and reflect on your choices with wit and clever insight that will ease the pain of midlife. I identified with many of her experiences and observations and have found great relief in knowing I am part of a larger generation of women struggling to reinvent themselves several times over. A must read for any busy working mom or any woman who enjoys finding meaning in her life." -- Amazon reviewer

"You can look at it as finally abandoning the last of the feminine 'rescue' fantasies. Or maybe it was just a dose of latent pioneer spirit coming to the surface. Though Davy Crockett never had one of these. (Of course, Davy Crockett never had a pair of leopard-print stilettos in his closet either. Or so we hope.) Either way, I bought a chainsaw..."

After a long fall from a tall horse put journalist and soccer mom Mary T. Wagner in a body cast for three months, she didn't take it as a sign to pull back on the throttle. Instead she decided to change careers, went to law school, became a prosecutor, and bought her first pair of spike heels. She never could step entirely away from writing, however, with the result that she’s been called “the Midwest’s answer to Carrie Bradshaw” and “the reincarnation of Erma Bombeck…in sexier shoes.”

By turns funny, touching, courageous and enterprising, this award-winning and inspiring collection of slice-of-life essays is what one reviewer called "life writing at its best." Wagner takes her readers along as she discovers the freedom and joy of riding on the back of a Harley; learns to embrace power tools after her divorce; and finds new tokens of love the second time around in the form of bonfires and car repairs.

Filled with humor, resilience and grace under pressure, "Running with Stilettos" is a wide-open window into one woman's mission to give every day her best fabulous shoes.

"Running with Stilettos" is the first of Wagner's trilogy of nationally acclaimed essay collections, which include "Heck on Heels: Still Balancing on Shoes, Love & Chocolate!" and "Fabulous in Flats: Putting my best foot forward!" The books and the individual essays they contain have won national and regional awards for inspiration, humor, memoir, and creative non-fiction.

“From cookies to Harleys, Catholic school to country living, Mary Wagner wields a pen of steel that hides a marshmallow hart. Read these essays and try your best not to smile.” FRANK JOSEPH, author, TO LOVE MERCY

“Funny, pluck, razor sharp, and occasionally heartbreaking, Running with Stilettos is a breezy, marvelous read. Wagner gives ingenious vent to the precarious balancing act of every woman’s life, whether teetering fashionably in high heels or desperately mastering a cordless drill in wet, muddy sneakers.” LESLIE TALBOT, author, SINGULAR EXISTENCE

“Mary T. Wagner’s stories in Running with Stilettos charm and amuse. Whether she’s taking you with her on the backseat of a Harley or into a courtroom in high heels, it’s one heck of a fun ride. Take a walk in Mary’s shoes, and you’ll be wearing a lasting smile.” RANDY RICHARDSON, author, LOST IN THE IVY and CHEESELAND

“Take a whirlwind tour through the moments of ordinary life with someone who is anything but ordinary. If you want edgy, spunky, funky, fun, this is your book!” TAMA J. KIEVES, author, THIS TIME I DANCE! Creating the Work You Love (How one Harvard Lawyer Left It All to Have It All!)

James Blond - Stockport Is Too Much, by Terry Ravenscroft. (Still free?)

A spy parody, from UK scriptwriter Terry Ravenscroft. Free today!

Tim Stevens - "With James Blond Terry Ravenscroft has penned another comedy winner. A clever and well written parody, the humour is plentiful and down-to-earth without being overtly crude. Ravenscroft's prose, in this book as well as his others, is easy on the eye and sweeps the reader along at a pleasant and satisfying pace.

sjp - After reading Captain's day, I felt compelled to buy Terry's latest release, only to be thrust into several more hours of belly-aching-laughs. His ability to write is astounding, and ANYONE who reads this will not be left thinking to themselves, "Well that was ok." Moreover, they'll be saying something like, "bring on the next one!"

Russell Bradley - "This was my first venture into the Kindle store so I was unsure of where to start for my first title. I thought a light hearted comedy would fit the bill so I read the reviews on ‘James Blond-Stockport s too Much’ and decided this sounded a good read. I was not disappointed ,the book was a delight. Well done Terry Ravenscroft, I will add you to my favourite authors list!"

After foiling the plans of countless power-hungry villains bent on world domination the bringing to book of the evil Dr Goldnojaws, who only wants to dominate humble Stockport, England, shouldn’t present too much of a problem for top secret agent James Blond. However in addition to taking on Goldnojaws and his evil sidekick BloJob, Blond has to wrestle with a prostate problem, so things aren’t quite as straightforward as he would have liked. Then to make matters worse he starts having girlfriend trouble....with Pisa Vass, Divine Bottom, Gloria Snockers and Ava Shag amongst others.

A few more 5 Star Amazon Reviews -

Bacteriaboy - As a huge fan of Terry Ravenscroft, I was nearly beside myself with excitement the day this book arrived. From start to finish it had me belly laughing so hard that on a couple of occasions, a little bit of wee came out! Hats off to Terry for this highly entertaining and recommendable read!

Mr. Anthony J. Mccrorie - Humour, like art, music and decorating your lounge, is personal and so it must be hard to write to make people smile, even laugh. However, Terry Ravenscroft succeeds and ever since being given his seriously funny book of letters to airline companies I have kept an eye for his new publications, and up to now have never been disappointed. It's a funny, entertaining read, ideal for bed or beach. I look forward to the next one.

chochouse - I have read several of Terry Ravenscroft’s books over the last few weeks and this one is up there with the best. A great story unfolds with some very funny James Bond references woven in to it. As always I had to read this book alone due to the constant need to laugh out loud and upset anyone within earshot with my constant uncontrolled chuckling.
