Return of the Bones inspired by a true story, by Belinda Vasquez Garcia. (Still free?)

Here's an interesting book that delves into the true story of displaced native American skeletons. A Literary Award finalist, this intriguing book is free today.

"A novel of family ties that stretch far past immediate generations, Return of the Bones encourages the reader to think long and hard about what should or should not be condoned as acceptable behavior toward other people's ancestors. Highly recommended. -- Midwest Review

"In her novel, RETURN OF THE BONES, Belinda Vasquez Garcia takes scientific facts that lie dormant and gives us a fascinating, very readable real account of the death of the people who once lived in the long ruined Pecos Pueblo, of the search for their bones, and the remarkable amount of information medical sciences has collected from them. The book also casts light on important chapters in our past of which too many Americans are totally ignorant." -- Tony Hillerman, New York Times Best Selling Author

"In Return of the Bones, author Belinda Vasquez Garcia weaves a mystical story." -- Colorado Magazine

"Garcia fascinates readers with her literary magic." -- Las Cruces Bulletin" --

A very special book -- In 1915, 2,067 Native American skeletons were stolen from the ghost pueblo of Pecos and transported to Harvard University for medical research...In present day and across the miles, the wind carries their cries to Grandfather who hears the bones longing for home.

Eighty-four years earlier he watched helplessly as those bones were ripped from their graves to be transported far away from their resting place. Now, he learns that Congress passed a bill allowing him to get back his family skeletons. He implores his granddaughter, Hollow-Woman, who he raised since birth, to embark on a road trip to Boston with him to recover the sacred bones.

She and Grandfather are the last of the Pecos people, but Hollow-Woman is not interested in ancient skeletons. She works at an Indian casino and is of the modern ways, while Grandfather is a shaman and values tradition. She finally agrees to drive him to Boston, hoping the road trip will heal their broken hearts.

Grandfather fashions a magical dream catcher to help her "see" her ancestors' lives, and come to love the missing bones, as he does. While driving a ratty old pickup-camper, the cantankerous Grandfather and stubborn Hollow-Woman bicker from New Mexico to the Peabody Museum.

A glowing work of literary fiction, with religious undertones of the persecution of Native Americans by the Catholic Church's Spanish Inquisition. A touching novel of love, devotion, and family. Return of the Bones pulses with emotion. The pages are filled with the comical way Grandfather looks at the world while embracing the heartbreak and spirituality of the Native American peoples.

You may know these famous bones on which landmark studies proved that exercise prevents osteoporosis! The book is enhanced with video and pictures through the author's website. Visit if you wish to preview the videos and images.

I will pick up other Nick Herald genealogical mysteries in the future." --Amazon reviewer

"The characters...display very real and sometimes raw emotions. Very well written. An exciting plot [that] weaves a fantastic adventure." - P. Carvelli, Goodreads reviewer

THE FIVE ELEMENTS is a character-driven blend of pseudoscience, alchemy, ancient inventions, and elemental magic that tells the story of Aaron, a sorcerer's apprentice who knows more about engineering and mathematics than magic, and Shanna, whose future is in rapid decline as she approaches adulthood. All of this changes when their home is laid waste by an elemental attack. Separated in the resulting chaos, their purposes are joined when they individually learn of the mysterious Fifth Element. Shanna sees it as the final piece in the puzzle that is her destiny. To Aaron's logical mind, it is an impossible ambiguity. Whatever the answer, the Fifth Element draws them back together and into a final confrontation not as allies, but as adversaries.

Borrowed Dreams (Scottish Dream Trilogy), by May McGoldrick. (Still free?)

This highly-rated Scottish historical romance is free today! From the prolific McGoldrick writers.

"An extraordinary historical romance! I would give this book six stars if I could. Millicent is one of my favorite historical heroines. With her courage and compassion, Millicent saved many lives, include Lyon's. Even after getting through five hellish years of marriage and almost dying, Millicent still has good in her heart. McGoldrick brings the reader two people who help each other come to terms with their pasts and heal their hearts, all while falling in love. The secondary characters in this book are unforgettable. The whole storyline was great, not like most historicals where the most pressing issue is what is fasionable to wear. Don't miss it!" -- Amazon reviewer

The first Book In a New Trilogy (Scottish Dream Trilogy)

Driven to undo the evil wrought by her dead husband, Millicent Wentworth must find a way to save her estate and free the innocent people her husband enslaved. Her only hope is a marriage of convenience with the notorious widower, Lyon Pennington, fourth Earl of Aytoun, who just may be the most handsome-and caring-man she's ever encountered.

May 28, 2003: Millicent Wentworth may have been unshackled from a miserable life when her cruel husband dies, but his legacy has left her impoverished and desperately needing to get help so she can continue to help those he enslaved. Her one hope comes with the offer of a marriage of convenience to a dowager's son. Lyon Pennington was emotionally and physically crippled in a horrific accident that left him a widower tormented by accusations of causing his wife's death. As the end of her life approaches, his loving mother is concerned about his care, and sees Millicent as someone who could assume the role of caregiver. Reluctantly, both parties agree. Neither wants another spouse, yet the marriage brings them both healing, desire, and eventually love. ........... ***** This is a tender story that offers a fresh and unusual twist on the Beauty and the Beast fable that holds a dear place in many a heart. A KEEPER!

Spencer's Face (Buckeye Hawks), by Autumn Brown. (Still free?)

A coming-of-age romance, free today. Caution: explicit scenes.

"I liked this story, it showed that not all teenagers are of the same mindset. All of the boys that Taylor had previously dated were only interested in one thing, but even though they dumped Taylor for not giving them what they wanted. They all seemed to still respect her. Taylor and Spencer's relationship was really very sweet, I really liked how they explored their feelings for one another, while wanting to remain responsible and sensible. Spencer lives with his Aunt and Uncle, as his parents were dead. Their attitude was on the whole good, especially when giving him advice about sex, although his uncle's "gung ho" comments were a bit unnecessary, and crass. While Taylor's Mum and dad were totally different. They were rigid and narrow minded in how they treated their children. A very interesting read, the writing lacks sophistication, nonetheless it is still charming." -- L. Sims, Amazon Top 500 Reviewer

Taylor is a popular cheerleader at Buckeye Union High, who has had a few boyfriends, even though she has yet to find her perfect guy.

Spencer is a boy with a huge birthmark covering one side of his face. He plays football, but tries to stay out of the limelight to hide his face. He's shunned by most of the girls at Buckeye Union High.

Luckily Taylor isn't like most girls. She sees Spencer for who he is inside. Can he be her perfect guy, even with his imperfections' She falls for him deeper than she's ever fallen for anyone. Convincing a shy, insecure Spencer that he's the boy of her dreams isn't going to be easy.

This is an emotion-packed, high school story of two teens discovering true love for the first time. This story is sexually explicit, describing sex in detail, intended for a mature audience.

Destiny Redeemed, by Gabrielle Bisset. (Still free?)

This paranormal romance is highly-rated and free today.

"As a huge fan of Gabrielle Bisset's, Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy, I have eagerly awaited the release of her novel, Destiny Redeemed. I tore into this novel, expecting great storytelling, an interesting paranormal plot, and some steamy sex as usual. I ended up getting much more than I expected and thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. Also, though I read the first novel about the Aeveren, which is written in a different style than Destiny Redeemed, I did not need the background from the first novel to understand and fall in love with this novel. This is an author and novel that I will be recommending highly to all my romance reading friends." -- Amazon reviewer

Fantastic world-building, intriguing characters, a unique plot, and a sweet but sensual love story that will melt your heart are just some of the things that make DESTINY REDEEMED one of those stories that you will remember long after you've finished reading.
-The Romance Reviews

Destiny Redeemed is not your typical paranormal romance, which is like a breath of fresh air. I had never read this author but I wouldn’t hesitate to do so again.
-Urban Girl Reader

Destiny Redeemed was another wonderful and detailed story telling. The author has a very special way of incorporating more than romance to her stories. She gives you characters that you either love, or love to hate with an interesting twist.

Some of the author's favorite lines:

“I'm not sure. Maybe that is how you Englishman say hello to your friends. I've never been to England,” Callie teased as she moved her hands to his shoulders. “I might need more convincing,” she said her voice all business.

“There's no place I'd rather stay especially if it means more of your apple cinnamon pancakes for breakfast. Preferably served to me in bed by you completely naked, but I'm flexible.”

“Sounds like a challenge to me. One I look forward to undertaking.”
