Surrender, by Melody Anne. (Still free?)

"The author did such a great job of developing this story and putting so many human aspects into it. The character development is strong and it makes it really hard not to fall for the hot, rich and possessive Rafe. Even if he can be an arrogant jerk at times we all know the cure to that problem...a young, beautiful and sweet college student. This is FICTION and people need to go into this reading it as such and not taking personal experiences or feelings into account when reviewing this book. The author did a great job with the storyline and characters. The story grips you from the get-go and makes you want to keep reading. This is book one of three and after reading the first and second book I cannot wait for book three!" -- Amazon reviewer

Raffaello (Rafe) Palazzo takes what he wants with no regrets. Arianna (Ari) Lynn Harlow has led a charmed life until tragedy strikes her family. He’s looking for a no-emotions attached mistress, she’s looking for redemption.

They are not a pair that should ever work, but undeniable attraction and devastating tragedies bring them together in the city by the bay where he fights to keep their relationship nothing more than an enjoyable way to meet his needs, and she battles to not lose herself in him. Spending time with Ari starts cracking the hard shell that Rafe has built around his heart, but he denies the affect she has on him until it’s too late to stop the inevitable conclusion that their relationship is headed for.

Rafe once believed in happily ever after, coming from a large Italian family. He’s got the Midas touch, since every endeavor he tries turns to gold. That all ends when his wife walks out the door and leaves him blindsided. His devastation quickly turns to steel when he decides no woman will fool him again. From that point on he treats relationships as nothing more than business transactions where both party’s come out mutually benefited.

Just when Ari has sunk to the lowest she’s ever been she finds an ad in the paper announcing a job that’s too good to be true. It turns out she’s right. She makes it through the intense rounds of interviews only to find out the job is for a mistress to the powerful Rafe Palazzo, owner of Palazzo Enterprises. Rafe gives her a day to think about whether she wants the position or not, and she’s sent on her way, only to find out her mother’s near-terminal position has taken a turn for the worse. Her mom’s only in the hospital because Ari messed up, and her mother’s the one who paid the price. Is Rafe her savior, or will he take her with him straight to the depths of hell?

Let It Be, by Chad Gayle. (Still 0.99?)

"I really enjoyed this book and strongly recommend it! It's a quick read but you become emotionally invested in each character, especially the main character, Michelle. I really rooted for her, identified with her and felt like I knew her as a friend. I think Gayle captured the essence of this struggling woman - and many women like her. The Beatles soundtrack backdrop captured the essence of the mood of the book, the mood of the era. Highly recommended read. Would be great for a beach or park day - just be sure to be ready to get in a somewhat philosophical, introspective mood - a glass of wine would be a helpful partner for that too!" -- Amazon reviewer

"A painful and poignant portrayal of a family torn apart . . . set to a soulful soundtrack."
-- Liam Tarry, The Book Boy

"A powerful story with melodic accents from the Beatles' final album."
-- Aimee Jordin, Foreword Reviews

-- Corinne H. Smith, Rambles.NET

"Gripping, real, and engaging."
-- E. A. Lewis, Mrs. Mommy Booknerd

Let It Be is a touching tale of loss, longing, and forgiveness that chronicles the breakup of a marriage, the destruction of a family, and the struggle to come together in the aftermath of what remains.
Searching for the love and happiness she feels she deserves, Michelle Jansen leaves her abusive, overbearing husband behind and takes her two kids to Amarillo, Texas, where she begins to learn how to stand on her own two feet, supporting herself and her children with the money she earns from a low-paying job as she becomes increasingly involved with a coworker who is an even bigger fan of the Beatles than she is.
But Michelle doesn’t realize that her ex-husband is willing to do whatever he can to destroy her new life. When Michelle is betrayed by her very own son, this already fractured family will be damaged in an almost unimaginable way. Can they find forgiveness in the midst of so much sorrow and guilt, or will love give them the strength that they need to let it be'
Part family saga, part coming of age tale, Let It Be is a story intimately linked to the music of the Beatles, a debut novel filled with true-to-life characters who want nothing more than a second chance.

Jacob's Return, by Annette Blair. (Still 0.99?)

"This reprint of a 1999 historical romance is an entertaining tale of redemption as the Amish society provides a strong backdrop to the tale of two rival brothers and the good woman between them. The story line is character driven with each key player having faults and flaws that make them seem real. Readers will enjoy this late nineteenth century Amish family drama as shunning the sinners competes with redeeming the sinners for the souls of Bishop Zook's community." -- Amazon reviewer

Jacob Sauder abandons his Amish heritage when the woman he loves, Rachel Zook, agrees to marry his brother, Simon. Though he adapts to the ways of the “English” — even fathering twins — he remains an outsider. When the mother of his twins dies, Jacob knows only one way to raise his children — the Amish way. He brings them home to the community he vowed to leave forever. For his children he can do anything, even be strong when he sees Rachel, his love, married to his brother.

Years ago, Simon lied to ensure a future with Rachel Zook as his wife. Now Rachel is barren, a disappointment to him. Unaware of the lie Simon told to drive Jacob away, Rachel believes Jacob abandoned her when he left the Amish community. Shocked when he returns with two-year-old twins, Rachel knows there can be nothing between them, for marriage is a life-long commitment among the Amish. But the twins need a mother and Rachel loves children. As she cares for Jacob’s children as if they were her own, her feelings for him deepen into a love that cannot be.

Jacob’s Return is the story of a prodigal son, a forbidden love, and a fanatical preacher. As shocking as it is compelling, Jacob’s Return is both uplifting and unforgettable. A wonderful read, this is a universal story about love and faith in impossible circumstances.

Please Note: This is a Sexy Historical Romance in Amish setting with sexual content

POWER: How J.D. Power III Became the Auto Industry's Adviser, Confessor, and Eyewitness to History, by Sarah Morgans. (Paperback: 15.66?)

No other individual has had as broad an impact on the auto industry during the past fifty years as Dave Power. Dave's persistence in getting auto executives to listen to customer concerns was key to the across-the-board rise in car quality, and the influence of his J.D. Power and Associates rankings has permanently raised the bar on customer satisfaction.

Enhanced with anecdotal quotes from Dave as well as dozens of industry insiders, POWER is a compelling study of an intelligent, polite, market-research wonk who unblinkingly spoke truth to power, and ended up making customer satisfaction a watchword not just in automotive but in all manufacturing and service industries.
