Free and bargain Kindle books! (Tuesday Jun 18)
After: First Light, by Scott Nicholson. (Still free?)
Just published - and free today! This prequel novella to the popular "After" dystopian series from Scott Nicholson also includes a bonus story from Joshua Simcox.
"After: First Light" is the latest installment from a very talented Scott Nicholson, and is a prequel to the "After" series. "First Light" sets up some of the background information about later episodes. This story is contagious, unlike the Zap-heads which figure prominently in the tale; once you start it, make sure you've got a good hour or so of free time ahead of you, because it's not a story you can just set aside until later. It will also get you revved up about reading the next two novels already completed, and the third one on the way." -- Amazon reviewer

Concessions, by Bo Bigelow. (Still 0.99?)
Struggling with her restaurant business against a rival chef, Iris opens up a downtown food cart and prepares for a showdown in the annual Best Chef award in Hansa, Pennsylvania.
"Concessions is one of my favorite books from this summer. Written with vibrant, engaging language, it draws you into each scene and creates a complete sensory experience. The tastes, sounds, and sights are made yet richer by being woven into a backdrop of complex emotional responses. It feels true to how memory works...the feel of a cold beer bottle on a scorching night, the smell of an herb, the flash of sunlight off a metal panel all engage us at the level of creating a scene, but also link to the feelings or memories those physical elements evoke. Bigelow creates quirky, original, raw characters who each let us into their deepest psyche, even or especially when what is to be found inside isn't glamorous or laudable. Two elements of the book remain most prominent to me. First, the descriptive writing around food, cooking, and eating, is absolutely delectable. I found myself alternatively drooling for a juicy burger and perfectly cooked fries, then for the salty and slightly foreign tastes of infused broths and noodles. Secondly, Bigelow on a number of memorable occasions creates what I think of as "emotional Matrix" moments--the emotional equivalent of Neo, in superhero slomo, careening backward to avoid bullets--in which the time of the novel slows to almost zero and two or more characters are engaged in an emotional dance of reaction and processing. Absolutely delightful book, couldn't recommend it more highly." -- Amazon reviewer

Charged - Book One, by L.M. Moore. (Still 0.99?)
Investigating the murder of a childhood friend, ex-cop Lewis Kagen makes a startling discovery about aliens inhabiting the earth. This intriguing Sci-Fi story is reduced to 99 cents today.
"WOW... Definitely not what I expected. Sci-fi isn't usually my first choice, but I was intrigued by this one. Not at all disappointed! The dark and unanswered questions grabbed my attention from the start, and I was absolutely hooked by the third chapter. Even if you're not big on sci-fi, I would definitely recommend giving this one a chance. It was suspenseful and left me anxious for a sequel. I don't want to give any spoilers, but the ending suggested there would be a follow-up... Hoping this is the case! I'm glad I decided to stray from my usual genres. Can't wait to see more from this author... definitely on my list to follow." -- Amazon reviewer

"I bought this Box Set and I LOVED all three books! Katie Reus is a very good author. I have enjoyed a few hours reading her books!
