Preemptive, by Douglas Grant. (Still free?)

"This is a gripping and valuable novel that presents a propaganda free account of U.S. covert involvement in Afghanistan years before 9/11, and of the results of that involvement in moving human terms. Mr. Grant's provocative work provides us with the opportunity to experience the developing crisis that has led to today's U.S./Middle East tensions through the maturing of two deeply troubled, often bitter, young men, one an Arab, the other a reckless New Yorker. After years of media reports that may distract from the truth, "Preemptive" serves to enliven the truth, a gift for us all." -- Amazon reviewer

Growing up in Manhattan, Zack McCrady did not have an easy life. First, his father died in a skiing accident. Then his mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Eventually Zack was left orphaned, and his big sister Jenny took over parenting and provided him with the unconditional love he craves. But after Jenny's death during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York, Zack begins spending his days pondering his rage toward Al-Qaeda, his dark feelings toward his own government, and his enduring pain and inner turmoil. On the other side of the world, Afghanistan is rotting from within. The Soviets have withdrawn and, technically, the Mujaheddin have won. Hakeem Rashid, raised by a surrogate father since infancy, is bright and gifted and knows the lessons of the Koran in depth. Despite growing up in war torn Herat, Hakeem has managed to remain civilized and with a sense of purpose, but when Hakeem's real father returns, everything is subject to change. Zack is involved in a violent crime. Hakeem has become his father's minion. As two men on opposite sides of the world battle intense psychological tumult, one of them is about to uncover a truth that will change him forever.

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes (Rose Gardner Mystery #1), by Denise Grover Swank. (Still free?)

"The book is often witty and Rose's take on situations are sometimes laugh out loud funny. There are some twists and many secrets revealed throughout the book. Some more unexpected than others, but once revealed, you definitely feel an 'ah-ha' moment. The scenes are described beautifully, never with more description than needed, which is just what I like. I've been known to only glaze over overly descriptive passages in most of the books I read, so this was a definite plus for me. I'd recommend the book to anyone who likes a coming of age story, murder mystery, or a romance. Rose a great heroine who is stronger than she thinks right from the beginning. It'll be interesting to see with her new found confidence where the next book in the series will take her." -- Amazon reviewer

**A humorous southern mystery**

WINNER of the 2012 Write Touch Readers' Award for Mainstream with Romantic Elements

"Though much of the book is light-hearted and occasionally outright hilarious, the author sneaks in a few home truths along the way that will hit you where it counts, like how even someone's best intentions can box you in." --Everybody Needs a Little Romance

"This was one of those books that I kept telling myself one more page, then I need to put it down. Instead I found myself tearing through the book instead, needing to know the outcome." --Just Jump Book Reviews
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.
Rose realizes she's wasted twenty-four years of living and makes a list on the back of a Wal-Mart receipt: twenty-eight things she wants to accomplish before her vision comes true. She's well on her way with the help of her next door neighbor Joe, who has no trouble teaching Rose the rules of drinking, but won't help with number fifteen-- do more with a man. Joe's new to town, but it doesn't take a vision for Rose to realize he's got plenty secrets of his own.
Somebody thinks Rose has something they want and they'll do anything to get it. Her house is broken into, someone else she knows is murdered, and suddenly, dying a virgin in the Fenton County jail isn't her biggest worry after all.

Dirty Little Secrets (Romantic Mystery) (J.J. Graves Mysteries), by Liliana Hart. (Still free?)

"Fast-paced, quirky romantic mystery! This is the first book I've read by Liliana Hart and I'm really glad I downloaded it. Needless to say, I was impressed. The story is short, probably around 200 pages, and appears to be the first in a series, but it had lots of tension, humor, wit, mystery, and the best friendship and potential romance I've read in a while." -- Amazon reviewer

Now and Then (Now Series), by Brenda Rothert. (Still free?)

"What a sweet romance! This is my second read from Brenda Rothert and can't wait to read the next. She has such a smooth, easy going writing style. This story follows Cole and Emma after they meet again for the first time in over a decade. However, we also get a taste of what these characters were feeling and experiencing all those years ago with flashbacks from the past. Now, I know I said this was a sweet romance and it is. However, just when you are thinking "What a nice, sweet, G rated book this is".....BAM!! The author turns up the heat. Holy heck! This isn't raunchy, but man is it hot! Even though this story ends with a 'happy ever after' and no cliffhanger, you are still left with wanting more of the swoon worthy Cole and Emma. Now I'm off to read Now and Again...stay tuned!" -- Amazon reviewer

**Warning** This book contains adult language and situations.
Now Emmaline Carson has settled into her career as a graphic designer, though she’d rather be painting or shopping with her sister Layla. But then – in the years before she went to art school in Paris – she was a shy, awkward teenager with frizzy hair, a flat chest and a massive crush on the boy across the street, Cole Marlowe. Too bad her incredibly hot neighbor only had eyes for Layla.
Cole is now a confident, laid-back attorney who’s even hotter than he used to be. He’s planning to stay single while working his way up the corporate ladder – until he’s knocked off course by a chance run-in with Emma.
Everything is different between Cole and Emma now. He finally sees her in a way she only dreamed of, and their hot chemistry is fueled by a growing friendship. But Emma’s deception of her sister – who wants Cole for herself – and the secret Cole’s been keeping for more than a decade threaten to tear apart what’s only just begun. Because sometimes the only thing standing in the way of now is then.
