The Plantation (Book 1), by Stella Samiotou Fitzsimons

"The Plantation is unique, I haven't read anything like it. The writing was remarkable, the characters were entertaining, and the storyline was phenomenal." -- Loves All Things Books, Book Blog

"I rate this book in my top five reads of the year." -- Wendy Scott, Fantasy Author

A century has passed since they arrived. Human history has been erased. Children are enslaved on Alien plantations. Some have heard whispers of the existence of a rebel band of humans who roam free in the forests. Most slaves dare not speak of the rebels for fear the mutant guards will grab and make an example of them.

Seventeen-year-old Freya is pulled away in the night not by the mutants, but by her old friend Finn, to join the Saviors, the mythic band of rebel teens. Her bliss fades when she discovers she is the only Savior without a special ability. She is the odd one out, slowly pushing Finn away, defying Damian, the leader of the Saviors, and antagonizing the fierce and beautiful Daphne. In her despair Freya reaches deep within to discover a dark destiny, a truth so heavy it threatens to destroy her.

The Last King's Amulet (The Price Of Freedom), by Chris Northern

"This first book hooked me and I've now read all that are currently available and hope for more. - Goodreads reviewer

The main character, Sumto, is more of an anti-hero than the bold figures usually depicted in fantasy novels, and his development throughout the book is both hilarious and tragic. - Goodreads reviewer

It's a great story too, with strong secondary characters and well developed setting. - Goodreads Reviewer

My name is Sumto, and everyone thinks I am a gambling, lazy, good-for-nothing drunk. Frankly, I think they have a point. Right now I may have to join the army and fight in a war I am frankly too corpulent to cope with.

Still, it looks like being a small, short war. So that's got to be as bad as things get. Am I right?

Trained in his youth for war and politics, Sumto is interested in neither. As the son of a Patron, he should gather clients, acquire wealth, learn magic, husband a political power base and take his place amongst the Assembly of Patrons, the rulers of the city. Sumto would rather gather friends, acquire books, learn history, husband a hangover and take his place at the gambling tables. That is not going to be an option for much longer.

Unknown to Sumto, everything is about to change. There is a war in the north and Sumto is about to become a very unwilling participant.

The first of four novels that follow the development of Sumto, a man unknowingly manipulated by someone determined to shape him for his own ends:

Book One: The Last King's Amulet
Book Two: The Key To The Grave
Book Three: The Invisible Hand
Book Four: All The King's Bastards

The four novels may be considered as one long novel.

Donuts, by Julia Dweck. (Still 0.99?)

A colorful children's book, highly-rated after 70 reviews, for 99 cents!

"There is no doubt, this is my favorite kid's book of the year. How can you not love this book? These are the best illustrations I have ever seen for Kindle. You actually forget you aren't holding a "real book" when you read this. The story is adorable and has a good message as well. My kids loved this so much that we are on our fifth reading already and I expect this has now become their overall favorite. I certainly recommend this book to anyone with children...maybe even if you don't have children, it is just so sweet!" -- Amazon reviewer

Donuts is a fairy tale with a modern day appeal. Meet Merl, a plucky, young squirrel who makes his home in a vast wilderness where all the trees have been cut to the ground. When Merl finds the very last acorn, he makes an extraordinary wish, resulting in one final oak tree sprouting. However, Merl’s wish is far from granted when the tree’s sprawling branches fail to bloom one single nut. A visit to a park turns Merl’s world upside down and his tree will never be the same. This is a majestic and poignant tale that exemplifies the beauty of loyalty in the friendship that grows between a squirrel and his tree. Donuts will touch the hearts of readers and make the most ardent cynic, smile. Stunning illustrations and melodic rhyming text make this enchanting adventure a memorable read.

The Secret Life of Avery O'Dea, by Elise Marion. (Still 0.99?)

"Elise writes with a breezy style that gently leads the reader from one thought to the next, providing obstacles without truly steering you to the direction you "should' take. What appears to be a light-hearted read can be so much more as you start to identify with the characters and see the world they occupy in a different light. A fun, quick read that stays with you when you catch that next flash of headline from the Celebrity gossip item you see in the checkout line." -- Amazon reviewer

A famous actress with secrets. A photographer moonlighting as a paparazzo. A few shutter clicks and their lives will never be the same again.

When a daring photographer catches "America's Sweetheart", Avery O'Dea, in a lie, the picture threatens to expose the truth of Avery's relationship with her boyfriend and co-star, Ryan Sanders, to the world. When her carefully constructed world is starting to collapse around her, Avery realizes just how tired she is of the elaborate cover-ups. It’s a burden she no longer wishes to bear.

"I loved this! I am a sucker for second chances. From the beginning we know that Chase and Hope loved each other when they were young, but have been apart for eight years. Now they need to get over the past. I loved the rock star aspect, but this book is mainly about the characters and their emotions. I was completely sucked in and rooting for them. I just loved Chase and Hope. A must read if you love emotional romance, second chances, and/or rock stars." -- Amazon reviewer

It was one of those mornings for newspaper-writer/photographer Hope Creswell. The alarm clock didn’t go off and she cut her finger on broken glass. Child of the Sacred Earth (The Lost Kingdom of Fallada), by Alicia Michaels. (Still 0.99?)

"I have always been a fan of fairy tales and not just the ones that were told to me as a child. The fantasy world that was crafted in The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of Rings series, these are worlds that you want to journey to. The Lost Kingdom of Fallada Series ranks right up there with these fantasy giants. The world of Fallada is one of magic, mystery, and wonders not seen on Earth. The blending between the fantasy realm of Fallada and our modern day world is truly amazing. The two stand in direct counter-point to each other, but they are both important to the series and each book. I love how the author takes a fairy tale princess and transforms them from the simpering, helpless females of my memory, in to strong, vibrant young women. Selena from the first novel is like this and so, too, is Jocelyn. The twists and turns that this novel takes, plus reintroducing characters from the first novel, had me racing from page to page, frantic to know what the fate of Fallada would be. The romance that takes place in this novel is one that has me intrigued as to what the author plans from this point. With Jocelyn torn between two males, I wonder who she will ultimately end up with, and I am secretly rooting for one over the other. I am excited to see where this series will go and will be anxiously awaiting the next installment. Till then, I guess I will have to content myself with re-reading the first two novels." -- Amazon reviewer
