"The Thunderchild Fables," by Roger Emile Stouff and Kenneth R. Brown

This book is six stories in one, woven through the fabric of the crash of the first manned expedition to Mars. Rescue is on the way, but oxygen is short, and worse, they are faced with a mystery...something that should not have been possible, but could not be denied. The commander orders the survivors to tell stories, explanations for the quandary they have been thrust into, and the fables are born.

The café was mostly featureless, almost barren. A few booths remained, and a couple of barstools, but Jacobs had the impression the place was long closed when it was--? Whatever. All the light fixtures were missing, and a few windows shattered.

He noticed Luka, staring at papers on a wall. "Captain. Look at this." Jacobs went to her. It was a calendar. The picture was of a pretty girl on the hood of a Mustang, and she held up a hourglass-shaped bottle of black liquid. The caption read, Enjoy Coca-Cola!

"Look at the date," Luka pointed to the top of the calendar.

June, 1968.

"Something's wrong here, Myles," she whispered over the com link, her voice tight as the bun of her hair. He thought he heard the slightest tremble.

"Something's very wrong."

"Excellent story. This is the second book I have read by these authors and was not disappointed. The first was Firekill. Well formatted for the Kindle Fire, great editing, great flow, and a good ending. Very interesting sci-fi with flights of fantasy. I will read another by these authors. -- Soldner, Amazon reviewer

The Thunderchild Fables, by Roger Emile Stouff and Kenneth R. Brown

They carried the dreams of a nation.

But the Thunderchild lay in wreckage.

Rescue is coming, but oxygen is running out.

In a dust-reddened cafe millions of miles from where it should be, the stranded crew compose their fables.

Something is listening.

Rotten Apple (Suspense thriller), by Natasha A Salnikova. (Still $0.99?)

From suspense author Natasha Salnikova comes this highly-rated thriller. It's a bargain book at $0.99 today!

"It seemed there was a new twist at every turn of the page. This is right up there with my favorites of 2012. I had no idea who was the good guy and who was not - everyone was suspect, and the author did not disappoint. You never know what's going on with Alexander, the main character. When you read a real suspense thriller, it's hard to read another book right away cause this one has to be digested thoroughly. I'll definitely be reading more by Ms. Salnikova." -- Ann Krihara, Amazon reviewer

Alexander Tallman enjoys life to the fullest. He has his own advertising company, a few girlfriends and a perfect wife, who is so naïve she doesn’t even notice her husband’s multiple affairs. But, one day, Alexander meets Karen. The woman is five years older than he and she wants to marry Alexander instead of letting him go, as others did. She doesn't want to give up; she wants Alexander to belong to her and only her. Alexander finds a reason for leaving that he thinks is good enough for Karen – his wife is pregnant. He obviously can’t leave her now (except she’s not). He hopes it will bring them to the finale of the relationship. He just doesn’t know how far a woman in love can go, a woman who was betrayed. When Karen finds out that Alexander wants to break off their relationship she doesn’t step back, but takes the reins of fate into her own hands. She decides to fight for her love no matter what the consequences. But everything turns out differently than she had expected and she becomes a marionette in somebody else’s game.

The book was originally published in Russian in 2011, becoming an instant hit. This is translated and adapted version for English speaking readers. Enjoy!

Solomon's Porch, by Wid Bastian. (Still free?)

A work of Christian fiction, free today.

"Solomon's Porch brings home an important message to those led astray by the shallow materialism of contemporary society and is an accurate portrayal of life for those seeking Christ in American prisons." --David Patton MA., Mdiv., Publisher, Dynamis

"One would hope that many a sermon in our churches could be as powerful as this book and as fully consistent with Orthodox Christian teachings." --Elaine Vizard, Book Review Editor, The Bread of Life

We were created in the image and likeness of God. Our souls are eternal, but for a brief time the immortal is hidden within flesh, the timeless joined to the temporary. Trapped in this imperfect state, we strive to find ourselves and our Creator, our souls desperately seeking to become reunited with the Immortal One.

The characters in Solomon’s Porch struggle between the conflicting calls of world and spirit, they reach out for God’s mercy in the darkness. Through my imagination, they do battle with themselves and against evil, stumbling down the path of life making mistakes, sometimes horrific ones.

They ask, as we all do, why are we here? Is there a God and, if so, what does He want from us? What is our destiny? What is happiness? What is love? What is truth? Is it possible to make sense of a world that exalts the most violent, profane, and merciless among us?

The Son of God touched me, reached out to a very determined sinner and atheist, and by His grace is leading me toward salvation. While I by no means have all the answers, I no longer need them. Faith has replaced cynicism. Knowledge of Christ, who He is, and what He has called each of us to become, now lights my way as I patiently await the Lord’s mercy.

Let all who read Solomon’s Porch see if they can find their own road home through the One who assured us that He, and He alone, is “the way, the truth, and the life.”

FIRST TIME KILLER, by Alan Orloff. (Still free?)

Another treat for mystery-lovers - free today!

"First Time Killer by Alan Orloff is about a radio talk show host who receives a call during his show stating the person is a first time caller - first time killer. He continues to taunt the radio station while killing people. The author has presented some very likeable characters; a terrific storyline and a well-written book. I was hooked from page 1. It's gripping and riveting. I look forward to reading more books by this author. Highly recommended." -- RJ Parker, Top 1000 Amazon reviewer

In shock radio, nothing is too far over-the-top in the pursuit of ratings.

Not even murder.

During his twenty-six-year career, D.C. radio talk show host Rick Jennings steered clear of outrageous radio. Wasn’t his thing. So when WTLK execs tap him for the Afternoon Circus to land a lucrative satellite deal, Rick struggles to maintain his standards—and his dignity. A chilling call (“I’m a long-time listener, first time KILLER.”) leads to the discovery of an intern’s arm in a trashcan. Rick spars with the “First Time” killer over the airwaves. The police are stymied. Ratings skyrocket. And First Time continues to knock off members of the Circus, phoning in to gloat afterward.

In a world of psychics and poseurs, crazy deejays and crazier callers, it’s up to Rick to bring First Time down before more people perish.

If you toss the movies Network, Play Misty for Me, and Talk Radio into a blender and add a liberal serving of Howard Stern, you’ll get the flavor of FIRST TIME KILLER (a full length suspense/thriller – 86K words, the equivalent of approximately 350 printed pages).

Zak Allen is the author of the ebook horror/thriller, THE TASTE.

Zak Allen also is the darker pseudonym of Alan Orloff, author of the Agatha Award finalist DIAMONDS FOR THE DEAD (2010) and the Last Laff Mystery series (KILLER ROUTINE (2011), DEADLY CAMPAIGN (2012)), from Midnight Ink.

The Navajo with Jake & Rusty, by Jonathan Wyler. (Still free?)

"I found this to be a very entertaining story. It is set in the early 1940s and most of the story takes place on a train. It is obvious that the author put in some time doing research. The descriptions of the train and of California are accurate for the time period. The story moves quickly and you don't have to worry about getting bogged down in the characters background or page long descriptions. It is mostly action with just enough background to make the characters believable and real. The story is a combination mystery and spy story with a little romance thrown in. The story revolves around two soldiers who are making their way across the country. They are joined by a wanna-be Hollywood actress and a Midwestern girl. The story starts from their meeting on the train and the intrigue begins. " -- JBP, Amazon reviewer

THE NAVAJO, an action/romance/spy/buddy story wrapped up into a road trip. The setting is 1940 as Air Corps Sgt. Jake Vasquez and Marine Cpl. Rusty Henson are thrown together on a cross-country train trip in less than perfect surroundings. At their first meeting, Jake and Rusty almost get into a fight as they are two totally different personalities. Jake is young HIspanic working his way up in the Air Corps and wants to become a flight engineer. Rusty is a hot-headed redhead Marine from California whose Quaker parents have disowned him. Although they initially irritate each other, they soon learn to work togther for common purposes. They encounter Molly, a youngish Indiana country girl running from something, and Gabrielle, a fashionable New York model on her way to break into Hollywood. But something is wrong; someone wants something they may have. Follow their story in the best Agatha Christie Orient Express style. Follow Jake & Rusty from Chicago to California. Extensively researched for historical accuracy, it’s a great tale for train buffs, military WWII buffs and fans of romantic interaction. Although our heros are basically stright arrows, be advised there is one moderately intense homoerotic scene (although somewhat comedic). Romance or bromance, you decide. Come along for the ride. (BTW, The Navajo is the name of the train.)

Around The World Travel (Travelogues and Travel Essays by a Budget Traveler), by Jeremiah Allen. (Still free?)

A 600-page travelogue, free today!

"A very interesting and detailed account of a young american's travels through several countries in Africa and Asia. It reads almost as a personal diary and is written with frankness and in plain language. The author also reveals his various ordeals, adventures and his personal impressions experienced in the various countries that he visits. Namibia is his first encounter with Africa where he spends the longest time and as such he often uses this biased experience to establish a comparison with the other countries that he visits. I must say that I often had some difficulty in understanding this young american traveller's attitudes toward local persons and the way he presented and behaved himself but I guess that when you are a "traveller on a shoe string" anything is possible and you become a survivor doing what you have to do. As a young american, riding on the benefit of having an afro-american President (Barrack Obama), the author shrewdly often uses this to weave his way through a world where sometimes the anti-American sentiment can become a hinderance. A recommmended light leisure read but definetly a biased, personal account with plenty of generalized and stereotypical views." -- Alberto, Amazon reviewer

One Backpackers Epic Journey To Circle The Globe

Upon college graduation, at the age of 24, I freaked out. I had no desire to begin a career. I had no idea what my career even was. My two degrees were supposed to give me guidance. They were supposed to give me a life yet the passion for a career and everything society taught me about how to measure success was opposite of what I was feeling. I needed to break free. There was only one solution. I had to travel.

Over the next couple of years I embarked on an epic journey to live and travel completely around the world. I awarded myself with a self-imposed exile and it was marvelous. I was running away from everything I had known. Soon I was swept up in the adventure of a lifetime: The book recounts the odyssey across the world, hitchhiking through rural Africa, on endless train rides through bustling India, on foot through the Himalaya, traveling by rickshaw in Thailand, by boat in Laos, and ferries in Vietnam.

In the course of my epic and enlightening journey tramping the globe, I endured danger, delay, and dismaying circumstances. Setting out without a planned itinerary, I gauged human psyches by purposely placing myself in uncomfortable situations. Talking with local Africans, Indians, Nepalese, Thai, Laotians, and Vietnamese, as well as other travelers who are like me, I meticulously tell the tale of human psychology, history, politics, and beauty that exists in a developing world in the midst of globalization.

Around The World Travel is based on the series of the same name that is also available in Kindle format.

"The Immortal Circus," by A.R. Kahler

This Kindle serial has a 4.7-star rating after more than 100 reviews!

I read this in installments as it was a Kindle Serial and I enjoyed the format and the story. Every two weeks, I was eager to get the new part and read it on the same day. I thought the story was well told and while I found that I was yelling at the very end because I wanted more answers, I take that to mean that I was well hooked and still want to know more. That last revelation of Vivienne's had me almost up in arms wanting answers. -- Anissa Analise, Amazon reviewer

The Immortal Circus, by A.R. Kahler

Murdered contortionists aren’t exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can't quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded—because forever means something quite different at the Cirque des Immortels.

Aided by her friends Kingston—a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart—and his sarcastic assistant Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past—and future—than she bargains for.

The show's just beginning.

Step right up...

Meet the Author

Alex is many things, but first and foremost, he's a Sagittarius. In the past few years he's taught circus in Amsterdam and Madrid, gotten madly lost in the Scottish wilderness, received his Masters in Creative Writing from Glasgow University, drummed with Norse shamans, and even spent a few months as the assistant to Holly Black and Cassandra Clare.

THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS, the first book in his dark New Adult Fantasy duology, is being published by 47North as a Kindle Serial.

MARTYR, the first book in his post-apocalyptic YA fantasy series, THE HUNTED, is set to be published October 28, 2014 by Spencer Hill Press.

When he's not writing or climbing in the rafters, he's probably outside, staring at the clouds. And seeing as he now resides in Seattle, there are clouds aplenty. He is represented by Laurie McLean of Larsen-Pomada Literary Agents.

Are you ready for this? Over 700 pages, in 3 books, from horror master Scott Nicholson... for 99 cents! Do not miss this chance to download these supernatural thrillers today!

I own all three of these books individually and when I saw they were compiled into one omnibus edition I became quite jealous. I wish this one had been available when I first started reading Nicholson's work. THE RED CHURCH was my introduction to Nicholson and I've been a fan ever since. DRUMMER BOY is the follow-up to THE RED CHURCH and tells the story of a young man trying to fit in. SPEED DATING WITH THE DEAD is the story of a ghost-hunting conference that goes terribly wrong. If you enjoy stories that are well-written, chilling at times, and actually focus on the story rather than shock-value, then check out Nicholson's work. His writing is atmospheric and with these stories set in the mountains of North Carolina, I immediately fell in love with them. This is a great bargain, three books for less than the price of your average mass-market paperback. Don't miss this collection! -- Neal Hock, Amazon reviewer

Meet the Author

I believe the writer only creates half the story, and that you complete it by bringing your imagination, experience, and heart to the tale. I am happy to share the journey with you.

I've written more than 20 novels, about 80 short stories, four children's books, some comic books, screenplays, and a couple of non-fiction books, as well as five collaborations with J.R. Rain. Many of my tales are based on supernatural legends from the Southern Appalachian Mountains, and I also write mystery and suspense thrillers that are most often compared to the work of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

I've also published Liquid Fear and Chronic Fear with Amazon's Thomas & Mercer imprint, as well as a number of audiobooks and foreign translations.

I love hearing from you, because you're the reason I do this, so let's connect! More at

Here is today's selection of free and bargain Kindle books!

Read No Evil, by Steven W. White. (Still free?)

Let's start today with a unique and intriguing thriller! Seattle high school teacher Jan Fitzgerald's students are disappearing mysteriously. From the author: "Read No Evil is a thrilling novel of suspense that challenges the perception of readers, with altered text, hidden codes, and other clues not found in conventional fiction."

"This book has all the earmarks of a good thriller that is just close enough to the possible to make you have goosebumps. If you're reading it on a kindle you will have even more reason for anxiety. Inexplicably in the middle of this book I turned a page and got a black screen. Those who have ventured to read it will understand how troubling that might be. As usual Steven's characters are interesting and unique. His plot kept me going and the techniques used to write the book (I don't want to give too much away) are very good." -- Barry North, Amazon reviewer

A new electronically-published fantasy novel is sweeping the nation. Everyone is reading it. Some love it, some hate it, and some vanish without a trace.

High school English teacher Jan Fitzgerald adores literature. But her students have begun to disappear, and somehow this new ebook is responsible. To protect the people she loves, she must discover how the nationwide outbreaks of violence and missing persons could be caused by the latest fiction craze. Jan comes to accept the extraordinary possibility that the ebook connects to a reader's subconscious...

...and uploads instructions.

Suddenly, the man she loves falls victim as well, and cannot be found. Jan has no choice but to read the ebook herself, and hope that she can resist its power long enough to unravel the mystery.

And you must read it with her.

"It's an ebook about an ebook - that might be the ebook that it's about." - Bruce Holland Rogers, Nebula and World Fantasy Award-winning author

Never Smile at Strangers (Grand Trespass Series), by Jennifer Minar-Jaynes. (Still $0.99?)

Over 300 reviews for this highly-rated thriller! Get it today at the bargain price of $0.99.

" Fans of mystery novels and tension-filled psychological thrillers will genuinely enjoy reading "Never Smile at Strangers." Minar-Jaynes has combined everything I loved about the old "Fear Street" novels with everything truly scary that keeps me awake at night now. There is something chilling about the darker side of humanity, and Minar-Jaynes does an excellent job of reminding the reader of exactly why parents tell their children not to talk to strangers. The characters' fear is honest, and their pain and confusion can be felt in the writing." -- Amazon reviewer

WHEN TEENAGE GIRLS VANISH in what was once considered a safe, Louisiana bayou town, the lives of four desperate young locals take unexpected turns, begging the question: Do you every truly know those closest to you?

When nineteen-year-old Tiffany Perron vanishes from rural Grand Trespass, Louisiana, best friend HALEY LANDRY's relationship with her boyfriend becomes increasingly strained. To make matters worse, her impressionable younger sister BECKY has begun idolizing an impetuous, seductive 15 year old who's encouraging her to do dangerous things.

Meanwhile, ERICA DUVALL, a reclusive 19-year-old aspiring writer, befriends Haley. Ten years earlier, Erica’s mother abandoned her, leaving her with the womanizing used car salesman father she loathes. She’s decided to write a novel based on Tiffany’s disappearance; a novel that she hopes will lead to a reunion with her estranged novelist mother.

RACHEL ANDERSON, a 36-year-old mother of two, is having trouble coming to terms with her husband, TOM’s, affair with the missing girl—a relationship that supposedly ended shortly before Tiffany’s disappearance. What’s more, she comes to the blood curdling realization that someone is watching her through the large back windows of her house.

A DISTURBED MAN also lives in the area. Ever since his mother’s murder four years earlier, he’s been raising his insolent teenage sister, ALLIE, who sleeps with truck drivers for money. He considers women to be dangerous—and his world revolves around his fear and hatred for them. He’s terrified of his sister, knowing she’s intent on pushing him over the edge.

Evie's Knight (#1 The Knight Series), by Kimberly Krey. (Still free?)

Over 40 five-star reviews for this paranormal romance, free today!

"I enjoyed the plot line of Evie's Knight. The story really drew me in in the beginning. Evie and Calvin take an art class together in college and of course Evie has a crush on Calvin because he is so hot. Evie and Calvin's art class scenes were great. I loved the description of Calvin's artwork. Who doesn't love a guy who is manly and artistic ;) What Evie quickly learns is that Calvin has a crush on her too and romance ensues. If you are a fan of contemporary young adult fantasy, this is definitely a book you need to try! I do hope that she continues the story with the other characters. I'd love to find out where Evie's mother is. I really thought that she would play a part in this book and was disappointed that she didn't." -- Christen Maurer, Amazon reviewer

Romance that's clean without losing the steam.
When Evie falls in love with Calvin Knight, their young, virtuous romance conjures a truly wicked spell.
Evie always thought her eighteenth year would be magical, but so far it's not what she hoped for. Her best friend has gone wild, her love life is void, and she misses her mom more than ever. But life for Evie is about to change. Calvin Knight, the object of her fascination, is about to fall madly in love with her. Just one problem: Their love conjures a murderous woman from beyond the grave who wants Evie dead. The same demon who has haunted the Knight men for over four generations. Soon Calvin is forced to make a choice: Set Evie free and hope to evade the wrath of The Raven- haired Ghost, or use his newly gifted strengths to fight against her. If he chooses to fight and wins, Calvin will free the Knight men of this demonic witch. If he loses, Evie will become her next victim.

"This carefully sculpted story did not disappoint; it is infused with romance, friendship, challenges, tragedy, mystery, conspiracy, despair, hope, and danger, all leading to a suspenseful showdown. A nicely done and absorbing read!" -- Amazon reviewer

DEADLY MEMORIES - What she can't remember might kill her...

"She doesn't remember a thing," Rolph snapped into the phone.

Andrea froze. His back was turned away from her. He didn't know she was there, listening.

"It's been six months, for God's sake. If you harm one hair on her head, I'll contact the authorities. My father would be disgraced, but that will not deter me."

Now Andrea couldn't move. There was no doubt Rolph was talking about her. She wondered how his father, the French Ambassador, could be disgraced.

His voice modulated to a threatening whisper. "This is the end. Otherwise she goes directly into protective custody, and I spill my guts. You've lied to me, made me into a damned traitor, and I'm angry enough to do it out of spite."

Now Andrea knew there were secrets he was keeping from her. What did he mean about protective custody? Was she in danger? The one blank spot in her mind was a mysterious car crash. She didn't know how she had landed at the bottom of a cliff in the Santa Monica mountains of Los Angeles. She remembered the fabulous party in Beverly Hills that night, but try as she might, she couldn't remember the sequence of events leading to the accident.

Rolph's last words chilled her, "I have nothing to lose. I'm a dead man."

Cemetery groundskeeper Roscoe Solomon is nobody's idea of a savior. Since derailing his old high school classmate Damon's football career amid a freak accident, his summers have consisted of weed whacking around tombstones and shooing teenage loiters off mausoleum steps.
