"The Rebel Within," by Lance Erlick

In the aftermath of another U.S. civil war, a different kind of rebel arises. Annabelle lives in a world where men are exiled, quarantined or forced to fight to the death in annual games. Encountering an escapee, the only safe recourse for her is to turn him in... but she puts everything at risk to give the boy refuge from his fate.

Intense action and compelling relationships make this dystopian thrill-ride a great reading choice... and when you're done there's a well-reviewed follow-up novel, Rebels Divided, available now.

"This book grabbed and held my attention from page one. Interesting premise - an oppressive world dominated by women. The author really got me into the mind of his heroine. I felt her pain and confusion as she went about trying to do the right things. Her challenges are many as she worries about her adoptive mother and struggles to keep her younger sister safe. Like Hunger Games, it's science fiction set in a bleak future, but the story transcends genre. You don't have to be a fan of science fiction to love it. Great read!" -- Amazon reviewer

"Readers will easily engage with this well-written tale. Annabelle is believably stubborn, yet also vulnerable and likable." "The novel has plenty of action and suspense, made all the more thrilling due to the investment readers have in the characters. The novel's psychological elements keep things interesting, as well." "Readers will likely think about this society long after finishing the book." - Kirkus Reviews
