Delightful, funny, creative, witty, these are the words I would use to describe this book. This was a quick, fluffy, and fun read. -- Amazon reviewer

Clem is a dog with a secret: he is an alien from outer space. Every morning, he digs out of his yard to go do his space alien mining duty, which is the reason the aliens are on planet Earth. So far, Clem's humans have just filled in the holes, so he should be fine, right'

But, no humans can know that dogs are aliens. If they found out because of something Clem did, then the next time he died, he would never be reborn. Alien dogs can't wait for their humans to leave the house so that they can do their undercover duty.

No dogs or humans are harmed in the story, and there is a happy ending, although there are sad parts and scary parts. This is a chapter book of 183 pages in paperback (40,404 words). The reading level is 4th grade with some higher level vocabulary words. The story intends to amuse dog lovers of all ages, but to also encourage them to adopt from the animal shelter.

Cherise was a cat person until she and her husband Scott adopted a shelter dog who won her heart. The cat she had at the time is in the story, too, and although Raffle tried his best to get along with Puritan, she wasn't having any of him. Raffle and Puritan's interactions are funny in hind-sight, but at the time their animosity was quite stressful.

This novel is based on the true story of how Raffle got his name. Sometimes, the part about him being an alien from outer space seems true, too. Raffle is the most obedient and eager-to-please dog Cherise has ever met. This dog is so bent on making sure his humans are happy with his behavior, you would think he was being watched by some all-powerful, unseen being.

Kax, the planet Raffle is from in the story, was originally named Vax, after a computer Cherise often battled while she worked as a policy analyst for Executive Life Insurance Company in the early 1980s. Nique, the rival planet where the little dogs come from, named itself. Out of the blue, the little dogs were Niques.

Cherise is currently writing the sequel about Oreo, Raffle's rascal of an adopted brother who thinks Raffle is a nut when he keeps trying to tell Oreo they are both really aliens from the planet Kax.
